Shiver - Audio.

Title/Author:  Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater.

Narration:  Jenna Lamia and David Ledoux.

Genre: Paranormal.

Publisher: Brilliance Audio.

Source: Library.

Synopsis:
For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf--her wolf--is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human . . . until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human--or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever. ~Goodreads.com
Midnyte Musings:  I resisted reading this book for a long time.  The synopsis didn't intrigue me and for some reason I thought it would read too young for me.  But, I was taking a road trip and needed something to listen to.  I decided to give it a try since I loved Raven Boys so much and let's face it, Maggie Stiefvater is awesome in person.

I'm so glad I made that decision because I just fell in love with the book.  (I'm now listening to Linger!)  I think perhaps I was expecting the same story I've read a dozen times, but Shiver is  different.  Original mythology, exciting story and great, great characters.  I absolutely love Grace and Sam and also a lot of the supporting characters; Beck, Isabelle and Rachel.  All their personalities bring the world of Mercy Falls to life.  Grace and Sam's connection is believable because of their past encounters with each other and their romance and relationship is intense, but not over the top.

The writing is thoughtful, lovely and poetic.  Sam is a musician and into poetry so this plays into his personality and sweet moments between him and Grace.  Grace is more of a practical person, a good student, very independent and basically raised herself.  I feel like when Sam came into her life he brought something to her and out of her at the same time.  Someone to truly count on as well to love in a way that she never has before.

Shiver is also an exciting story.  Not a "werewolf" story, but a shifter story just the same and the players have their own agenda, each walking a different path for different reasons.  It's a story of love, loss and hope.

Narration: Grace's voice by Jenna Lamia is perfection.  I love the way she did Isabelle and Rachel also.  Her tone is young and vibrant and she conveyed a lot of emotion that absolutely convinced me of what she was saying.  I felt that Sam's voice by David Ledoux was almost perfect, but I felt it was a little mature for a teenager.  I'm sure some teens sound like grown ups but it just didn't convince me 100%.  However, the performance was amazing.  He was expressive, pensive and passionate.

Starstruck Over: The entire book.  The entire.  Book.
