Book Blogger Confessions - Blogging Longevity (Monday, April 15, 2013)

Book Blogger Confessions is a meme that allows book bloggers to discuss issues unique to what we encounter in the blogging world. Every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month we will post a question and invite you to answer, comment and discuss opinions and different views.

Please keep the dialogue courteous. No bashing!

If you would like to participate in this meme sign up below and please feel free to to grab the button to include in your post with a link to For What It's Worth Reviews or here at Midnyte Reader.

Question:  April 15th - How long do you see yourself blogging for? Do you think it's ok for a blog to evolve over time? For example: You may have started out as a book review blog but now your interest is in cooking as well. Do you incorporate that or start over?

Answer:  I really never gave myself a timeline and I'm not sure what the future will bring.  I don't have a picture of me blogging or not blogging in the far future, if that makes sense.  I guess I will just have to take it as it comes.  I would like to think I would be able to keep up the enthusiasm and stamina to do it for many years, but who knows?

I absolutely think it's okay for a blog to evolve just as people evolve.  I think it would be fine to incorporate new hobbies into your present blog.  However,  especially if I wanted to blog about something totally different, I'd use a different name...but probably still use Midnyte in the title somehow!

First comment! Is there a prize for that? ;P

Second what you said. All of it. Though I'm still a newbie and you've been around for a longer time...I hope my own enthusiasm and stamina will keep me blogging for many years too. I previously tried some different things on the net, like forums and MySpace pages etc. (back when MS was still influent LOL), and tore them down after a while because they didn't seem to work. But I can see this one thing working on the long run...maybe not being overly successful, but working anyway. To me it's more personal than a FB or T account, meaning that you don't need immediate feedback - so I'll be patient this time, and stick to it. In the meantime, thanks to all you visitors and fellow bloggers!

I think taking it as it comes is probably the healthiest approach to longevity. Why pressure yourself to keep going for years? We never know what the future will bring.

I personally love when people weave in bits from their other hobbies. It lets me get to know their personalities.

I see your point but I also like when bloggers keep the same name. It's how I know them so I usually prefer they incorporate or grow as needed but keep the same name and site.

On the flip side, I have a few bloggy friends who are always changing names and sites and it sorta drives me crazy.

I want to blog forever. Allowing my blog to grow with me.

Connecting a new blog with a variation of your current title would make it easy for those to following this one to make the connection to your new one.

Happy Reading!

@Roberta-I know what you mean about a blog being more personal than FB. I hope you will be patient and stick around for a while!

@Julie-I think if a blog (and a person) doesn't evolve it can get stagnant. It doesn't have to be radical, but small changes are great too.

@Logan-I agree! A blog should never be pressure if you're doing it for fun. I like seeing what people's hobbies are too.

@Juju-I can see that. I just meant, if I started to just blog about food should my name still be Midnyte Reader? I could change it to Midnyte Baker or something : )

@Steph-That is a good idea!

I love when blogs evolve and we get to see more of the blogger we've come to know through reading their posts. And I hope you continue to blog for a while!

Book blogging has been such a huge part of my life for years now that it's hard to imagine not doing it, but I know that life brings huge changes so I'm not going to worry about my longevity. I agree, adding different hobbies or blogs can be a good way to evolve naturally, but just in case I ever become a grave stone rubber or mom, I'm okay with changing my blog to show that.

I like your attitude of taking blogging as it comes. Right now I can't imagine not blogging, but 2 years ago I couldn't see myself blogging so I know that feelings and attitudes change.

It's all about taking things one day at a time!
