Tag You're It!

I've been tagged by the Book Rat and you should be tagged too.  Click HERE to see Misty's video post

Read on for the list of bookish questions for 2011 and my picks.

1. Book you're an evangelist for: Teeth edited by Teri Windling & Ellen Datlow.  I loved this book!  It was so much fun to read and every story is entertaining, drew me in right away and held my interest.  So.  You need to go read this!  You can read my review HERE.

2. Most surprisingly good book: Dracula by Bram Stoker.  I thought I was going to have trouble getting through this novel.  Yeah sure, it's a classic piece of literature but I didn't think it would be even scarier than any of the movies I've seen, that the characters would stay with me and that it would be so rich with detail.  You can read my review HERE.

3. Biggest disappointment so far: Immanuel's Veins by Ted Dekker.  I really wanted to like this book.  The cover is gorgeous and the premise sounded cool.  I kept reading hoping that the story would pick up and the characters would become more believable.  You can read my review HERE.

4. Funniest: Wild Ride by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer.  I listened to this book and it cracked me up.  It is so silly and campy and the narrator did a great job acting out all the humorous characters.  You can read my review HERE.

5. Favorite Cover (published in Jan-June 2011):  Teeth.  I don't know, there's just something about this cover.  As soon as I saw it I wanted to read it.  (Of course it is the title too.)  If it was a movie poster, I'd want to see it too.  It could be a pin up poster on a boy's wall, a cd cover for a musician or a photograph in a fashion magazine.  I think the woman on the cover is beautiful and mysterious and this cover is worth 1000 words.

Blood Rights by Kristen Painter.  I used a slightly larger image so you can see the gorgeous artwork on this cover.  I mean, look at it!  It's stunning!  I would love to recreate this as a costume.

6. Favorite Character: Clare of Clarity by Kim Harrington.  I just loved her.  I would love to be friends with this girl.  She is sassy, clever, tenacious and funny and possesses a strong voice.  Most of all she is believable.  You can read my review HERE.

7. New to You series: Black Dust Mambo by Adrian Phoenix.  Book series don't really work for me for reasons that would take a whole other post.   I may be cheating here a little bit, because I think that BDM is the first of a trilogy as opposed to a series.

I enjoyed this story and the main character, Kallie.  It's a fun adventure, an interesting mystery and the fact that it took place in New Orleans is a huge plus for me.  I'm looking forward to following Kallie through more trials and tribulations.  You can read my review HERE.

8. Most beautifully written: Chime by Franny Billingsley.  This book is poetry and riddles, secrets and romance.  The words are lyrical and it is just so different yet lovely.  You can read my review HERE.

9. Most thought-provoking OR book that grew on you: Horns by Joe Hill.  This is a great book and I loved it.  It contains so much to think about and contemplate.  I found myself putting post-its on many passages.  Questions of good and evil, faith and redemption are explored.  Review coming soon.

10. Book you want to see made into a movie: Horns by Joe Hill.  (Again.)  I like to read the books before I see the adaptations.  When I heard that Horns was being made into a movie starring Shia LeBeouf I knew I had to hurry up and read it and I am so glad I did.

11. Wishlist for the second half of 2011:  There are so many books I'm looking forward to in the latter part of 2011.  I hope I can get to some of them since my TBR pile is out of control!

Bad Taste in Boys by Carrie Harris.  Maria from The Serpentine Library brought this book to my attention.  I looked at the cover and wanted to know what it was about.  It sounds like it has a lot of potential for fun.

Dark Souls by Paula Morris. I actually just discovered this book this evening.  I really enjoyed Ruined by the same author.  (You can read that review HERE.)  This book takes place in York and also has ghosts, one of my favorite supernatural creatures.

YAY!!! I want to get a copy of teeth; I trust pretty much anything edited by Datlow & Windling.
And I L-O-V-E the cover for Blood Rights. So fabulously intricate.
I have Clarity and Chime waiting for me, and I think I'm going to try to work both into Helluva Halloween... Guess we'll see.
Thanks for playing along!

I have wanted Teeth for a bit now lol hopefully have it soon. Joe Hill has another one out called Heart Shaped Box that I heard suppose to be really good. I bought it at a library sell. Great list, definitely checking out Bad Taste in Boys and Chime. The title and cover are both beautiful as well. :-) Thanks again!!
